2005 IPPIES Awards Winners

The Independent Press Association's Ippies Awards 2005 marked an important year of accomplishments for the independent – community and ethnic – journalists.  A year when, in response to our journalists' serious complaints about lack of access to city government information, Mayor Michael Bloomberg designated a contact person in all city agencies to respond to our queries, thus institutionalizing access for our members.  A year when all NYC mayoral candidates sought out IPA members journalists to let their views be known to the communities.

The IPA's Ippies are the only journalism awards that honor the excellent work of New York metropolitan journalist who also report in languages other than English.

IPA asked its member publications to submit their best work for consideration in five editorial categories and three graphics categories.
