NEW YORK: On September 2, the Democratic Party candidates for New York State Attorney General's office met with the ethnic media at the studios of Manhattan Neighborhood Network. Participants included former Superintendent of Insurance for New York State Eric Dinallo, New York State Senator Eric Schneiderman, State Assemblyman Richard Brodsky and Sean Coffey, who left private practice to run for office.  Kathleen Rice, the 5th candidate in the race for Democratic ticket, did not participate despite repeated attempts to secure her presence. Veteran journalist and Publisher Our Time Press David Mark Greaves moderated the 90-minute debate, which was broadcast live on Channel 34 Time Warner Cable as well as on the web.

The candidates fielded pointed questions regarding the construction of an Islamic center near the World Trade Center site, the discrimination and profiling of minorities by law enforcement agencies, abuse by employers of immigrant workers, especially the undocumented, and about the Public Authorities Reform Act – all issues of particular concern to immigrant communities. Journalists, who represented numerous ethnic and community publications and radio and TV channels, were also afforded an opportunity to ask questions of the candidates. Repeatedly, the candidates acknowledged the power, reach and importance of ethnic and community media and mentioned their increasing interaction with it.
