Why join the NYCMA?

We offer a number of benefits that can help make your publication stronger:

More advertising revenue. The Ad Service Program (ASP), a charitable initiative, works to attract a range of advertisers to our member publications. Non-members are also eligible for ad placement, but members keep a larger percent of revenues. Representatives from your newspaper may also be eligible to sell ads for ASP.

Technical and editorial assistance and training. Through the Independent Press Institute (IPI), NYCMA arranges yearly workshops on topics such as Internet presence, Website design, sales strategies, media kit design, and preparing for an audit. Addressing the publications' editorial/investigative reporting needs, members are invited to press conferences and briefings; seminars on topical issues; as well, members are offered trainings on investigative reporting skills. meet both political leaders, community advocates, academics and students to expand their pool of resources.

Access to public figures and more. City and state officials often don't make time for smaller publications. With our frequent IPI press conferences and forums, you have a chance to pose questions to officials in person. Past IPI events  featured Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Schools Chancellor Joel Klein;  NYC Comptroller William C. Thompson; and former NY State Governor Eliot Spitzer.  Community and advocacy leaders are frequent speakers at IPI forums.

Higher visibility. With our ethnic press directory distributed around the city, our Ad Service Program (ASP) raising the profile of local publications and markets with advertisers, and events that introduce city officials to editors, your paper is going to be seen. Articles syndicated in the Voices That Must Be Heard project get read far beyond their first publication, reaching outlets around the city and on the Internet.

Networking opportunities. Press clubs, trainings, and our listserv provide opportunities for members to share insights and develop partnerships with each other and our community allies.
