New websites seek to connect with Korean immigrant housewives

There are a surprising number of Internet websites being created for Korean immigrant housewives. The popularity and variety of these sites are growing rapidly as they provide information about life in general in the United States.

These websites, which give tips and how-to’s on housekeeping, cooking, childbirth, child education, beauty treatments and literature has helped foster the growth of a new network.

Missy USA (www.missyusa.com), for example, is seen as the premier website for Korean immigrant housewives, presenting a powerful space for them. The site contains a special question-and-answer portion for newly arrived immigrants, sharing information on domestic issues. It also has a chat room to exchange ideas and opinions on politics, economy and culture. One of the outstanding features of the website is the open forum that allows users to relate personal stories of difficulty and mistreatment when shopping. The website then brings the complaints to the attention of the companies involved.

Mizville (www.mizvill.org), on the other hand, which just opened this past December, has a popular nickname – Korean Housewives’ Happy Village. The site has gained popularity among Korean immigrant housewives since its opening. It features entertainment, living, beauty and health, child rearing and education, economy and law. It also has a chatroom and cybermarket, both of which boast record daily hits.

Gomissy (www.gomissy.com), also launched last December, has likewise won great favor among Korean immigrant housewives. This site, with over 5,000 current members, provides information on how to cope with life in the United States by tackling questions about kitchens and interiors, a study room for English-language, a news column, and shopping and market tips, and consultations.

heyKorean (www.heykorean.com) is also a website for Korean housewives that gives cyber support, and serves as an avenue for information exchange among members.
