An Ecuadorean youth was shot and killed in the early morning hours on Sunday, Feb. 8, in Plainfield, NJ.
According to information from the Union County District Attorney's office, the victim has been identified as Christian Tigse, 18. The office added that the youth was shot in the head as he sat in the passenger seat of a car that was driving on North Avenue, across from the Plainfield train station.
The victim's brother, David Tigse, like his whole family, is demanding justice. “We are very sad and very frustrated because the police have not informed us exactly what happened to my brother, he said.
Tigse was described as a quiet person, who was working off his debts as a mechanic's assistant. He was also studying to finish high school, with a year to go until he got his diploma.
The young man had arrived from Ambato, Ecuador, seven years ago. According to the victim's mother, Inés Yancha, her son “had no enemies, and he was never involved with gangs.”
According to the family's statement, Christian was on his way home in the company of a friend, at around 2:30 a.m.; as they passed the train station, they saw a group of people emerge from behind a parked automobile, and one of them began to fire.
The driver, whose identity was not disclosed, quickly drove the victim to the police station, located two blocks from the place where the events had occurred. When the emergency medical service arrived, the youth was declared dead.
The case is under investigation at the present moment. No arrests have been made.
