U.S. peaceful approach to Middle East promotes safe haven for Muslims here

Thirteen thousand Muslims attended a convention held by the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), on May 22 to 24, where Islamic thinkers gathered to deliberate the present and future challenges facing Muslim communities.

The honorary guest speaker, Ms. Dalia Mujahid, President Obama's advisor on inter-religious affairs, urged the Muslim community to reduce friction with other communities and called for a united struggle against terrorism.

President Obama, aware of the growing Muslim population in the United States, has taken the initiative to bridge the gap between the United States and the Muslim world by accepting an interview with an Arab television station, speaking in Turkey's Parliament, and with a visit Egypt, along with other Muslim countries. Extending his hand in cooperation rather than bitterness, Obama has embarked on a new era of Islam- U.S. relations characterized by dialogue and cooperation.

Dalia Mujahid further stated that the stigma attached to Islam can be removed only by Muslims themselves and suggested improving the relationships and ongoing dialogue with surrounding communities. Muslims need to pass along Prophet Mohammed's message of peace and humanity through love and dignity.

Echoing Obama, who pointed out that the Muslim population established itself in the United States through strong action and creative initiative, Dalia Mujahid added that parents should continuously pass Prophet Mohammed's message on to new generations, allowing Islam to shine with good deeds.

The U.S. administration has taken a clear step towards cooperation and peaceful negotiations with the Muslim world in an attempt to eliminate the cultural clashes between the Middle East and the West.
