On route to US, 14 undocumented Bangladeshis arrested by Colombian authorities

Immigration authorities in Colombia arrested 14 Bangladeshis, all under 25, who were making their way north to finally cross the boarder into the United States. The incident occurred on June 6, in DariƩn, an eastern province in Panama bordering Colombia. According to reports, the determined undocumented immigrants were arrested entering Panama from Colombia via a waterway. A TVN broadcast report explained the reasons why the ill-fated Bangladeshis wished to emigrate to the United States, which caused them to resort to desperate measures and travel dangerous routes.

Due to the lack of security in Bangladesh, the men paid their way across country lines, risking their lives in Indian and Africa, to reach the United States, taking a circuitous and dangerous route. The Spanish- language daily newspaper, Castalia Pascal, and TVN reported that their capture was due to their being abandoned by the coyote, who escaped taking large sums of money they paid to be smuggled into the United States.
