Representatives of nearly 30 Chinese-American organizations in the East Coast attended a conference in Manhattan's Chinatown on July 7th, to deliberate on the violence of the Urumqi riots. The organizations collectively condemned Rebiya Kadeer for inciting violence and bloody terrorism in Urumqi.
Liping Cheng, the president of New York Shanghai community, stated that dividing China is an unforgivable act, and that the bloody violence ignited destroyed the progress that Chinese society has hitherto achieved. The new Chinese society has fostered stability, cultural and economic prosperity, ethnic harmony, and peace. If the violence and hostility is not eliminated, the peace and prosperity that the 56 ethnicities in China have achieved would be destroyed and advocated for China to move past the riots with confidence and determination.
The group was unanymous that the terrorist separatist movement should be condemned by Chinese inside and outside of China. The Chinese-American organizations wholly supported the Chinese government's policies and enforcements in eliminating terrorism in Urumqi.
Yan Fang, a Chinese political commentator, argued that the international situation is very complicated. As the world tries to explore how to avoid conflict, terrorist organizations have been advocating Urumqi and Tibetan independence. The terrorist organizations are trying to provoke the government and create a reaction. Their goal is to divide China, create conflict and thereby slow down China's progress. The death toll of the Urumqi riot was much higher than the Tibetan riot in March; it was bloody and brutal and all governments should act against this violence.
Shigan Zheng, the president of U.S. Fuzhou Community, concluded that the Chinese Diaspora hopes that their mother country will be able to achieve prosperity and peace. The Chinese-American community in the United States firmly condemns the violence of the Urumqi riots. And he also condoled with those victims on the death of their relatives and their loss.
