New York: New York Community Media Alliance hosted the first of two workshops -- Elections 101: NYC, Albany and the Elections 2010 -- on Thursday, July 15 at CUNY's Graduate School of Journalism.

NYCMA is thrilled to announce the start of our summer internship program. We are able to place high school seniors with a passion for journalism in the real world of pad and pen. Students are given a rare insight and understanding into the power and function of New York's community media and the ability to hone writing skills in preparation for a career in journalism. This program is made possible by a generous grant from an anonymous donor.

New York Community Media Alliance hosted its first conference on Communications Policy and its Possible Effects on Ethnic Media and Their Communities, Tuesday, June 8 at CUNY's Graduate School of Journalism. In attendance were journalists from a range of publications as well as many communications justice activists – all who sought to expose the connections between communications policy and the everyday life of community members. The conference also focused on wireless services and how their policies affect communities.

FPI releases data about unemployment rates for New York City residents
Fiscal Policy Institute has released a fuller set of data, with detail on immigrant unemployment by gender, and comparing recent immigrants with those who have been here more than 10 years. This is a data release from the Fiscal Policy Institute that is not connected with a full report.
