Parikh Worldwide Media Inc., acquired the popular weekly newspaper, Gujarat Times, the company announced March 29. Headed by Dr. Sudhir M. Parikh, a physician
philanthropist and community leader, Parikh Worldwide already has in its stable The Indian American, a general interest bimonthly magazine, and the popular weeklies News India Times, Desi Talk in New York and Desi Talk in Chicago.
Dr. Parikh said he would build on the excellent journalistic standard established by the Gujarat Times and make it even more appealing for the benefit of an increasingly discerning and highly educated Gujarati Diaspora in the United States. Parikh World Media announced that on Monday, March 29, it acquired all of the assets of Gujarat Times from Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The newspaper will continue to be published under the Gujarat Times banner.
The paper has a solid brand value in the Indian-American market, Dr. Parikh said. And with its acquisition, the Indian-American community would be better served – with News India Times having a national perspective and reach, Desi Talk having a niche local flavor of the cities it is published in, and the Gujarat Times covering an increasingly high-profile community with its ever rising influence in the United States.
Even as he plans to expand the editorial scope as well as the marketing and advertising reach of the newly acquired paper, Dr. Parikh said the core content will remain intact for the loyal following of readers.
Dr. Parikh is the recipient of several distinguished honors, including the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor and the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman and the Padma Shri.
