Matsui jerseys hit sports shops

T-Jerseys of Hideki Matsui, the new star of the New York Yankees, are selling like hotcakes since they went on sale at four public Yankees stores in New York City this month. The blue jerseys have the name “Matsui” and his number 55 on the back. It’s been reported that 20 shirts were sold in one day at the store near East 59th St. and Park Avenue, going for $20 a pop. Japanese people weren’t the only ones buying; Americans are buying them up too.

“Of course I’m looking forward to Matsui’s first game,” said one store worker. “It would be great if he really took off in the first 20 or 30 games.” Tickets for the Yankees’ opening day game are also on sale. The most popular tickets, of course, are the ones against Ichiro’s team, the Seattle Mariners, on April 29, 30, and May 1.
