A knock on the door in the middle of the night

My friend Teddy Shah tells the following story.

One night he was alone in his apartment watching a very long film. It was way past his bedtime but he continued to watch it until finally he couldn’t keep his eyes open. That’s when he heard an insistent knocking at his the door. He thought he was hearing things, but then he peeked through the eyehole and saw a team of uniformed men. It was like the news was happening to him: the FBI was raiding his home! When he opened the door he was already stammering, filled with extreme anxiety (though nobody had even asked him a thing yet!). Two officers led him to a corner in his apartment and asked him questions, including whether he “knew” Osama bin Laden (Teddy remembers staring incredulously at the officers), while the other men searched his apartment.

”This all happened so fast that before my neighbors could react I was taken out of my apartment and to my office. In all the unreality of this episode I did wonder, “Why me?” It turned out that the Taxi and Limousine Commission had once issued a summons against me, a matter which was later resolved, but there was still a record of it at the TLC. That is why they came after me. The next day though, I was released on bail,” Shah said.
