A report released by the Justice Department shows that of the 766 people arrested by the FBI in the aftermath of 11 September, 505 were deported and 54 detained for more than 90 days. Almost all of them were Muslim and most of them were from New York. Anthony Ramirez, executive director of the ACLU said that the report is evidence of what civil liberties groups and organization have been saying for 18 months: the war on terrorism quickly became a war on immigrants.
The report points out that the FBI was lax in clearing and releasing innocents from detention. It was simply not a priority for the FBI.
Of all these people not one was found out to be a terrorist.
The Justice Department also said that they kept within the law and had nothing to apologize for since they were making the country safe against terrorism.
