SAALT submits testimony against profiling to House committee

South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT) submitted a written testimony to the House Committee on the Judiciary regarding the impact of profiling on the South Asian community. The testimony highlighted the ineffectiveness of profiling for law enforcement and its impact on a range of communities. It was the first hearing on the issue in nearly a decade, titled, "Racial Profiling and the Use of Suspect Classifications in Law Enforcement." more>

The popular columnist Joel Stein's satirical piece in Time magazine this past week, titled "My Own Private India," was a hark back to his past, of his youth in Edison, NJ and his troubled bewilderment to the invasion of his town by "less bright" and "damn poor" Indians, since the immigration floodgates opened in 1965. more>

AIDS coalition launches “Test Me for HIV” campaign

Currently, Asian and Pacific Is­landers is the only racial/ethnic group in New York that has not experienced a decline in the number of new HIV diagnoses, and only six percent of APICHA New Yorkers report that their doctor recommended an HIV test. This presents a major concern that could have far-reaching impact.

Immigration fraud: Attorney General Cuomo issues 50 subpoenas
