The IPA-NY is a nonprofit that supports independent publications committed
to social justice and a free press. If you publish in the public
interest, you need the IPA. Since 2000, over
987 magazines and newspapers - large and small - have taken
advantage of our technical assistance manuals, distribution
broker, vendor discounts and revolving loan fund. We've learned
we are stronger when we work together.
About
the IPA-New York
IPA-New York is the only association of
ethnic and community publications in the city. Since April of 2000, we
have been providing technical assistance, training, networking
opportunities, and advocacy for our members. We're building a network of
freestanding community and ethnic papers to strengthen each other
through cooperative action.
Our ethnic and community press
membership in New York City reflects the vast range of cultures and of
languages spoken here. KIP
Business Report, Nowy Dziennik,
Daily Challenge, Arab
Voice, News India-Times,
Russian Forward, and Haiti
Progres are among our members. We also work with national IPA
members located in the city, like African
Link, City Limits,
Harper's,
and Lilith.
To better serve our members, we have
been building alliances with community, labor, and industry groups. With
the Audit Bureau of Circulation,
we've been working on a step-by-step plan to make an audit - the key for
newspapers to get advertising - more affordable for our members. Our
work with labor groups and nonprofits has generated a number of
campaigns that have channeled vital advertising dollars to New York
papers. Communication with government offices has helped us help editors
get important information about civic participation to their readers.
Because our focus is on New York City and the surrounding area, we can
provide technical assistance face-to-face and create opportunities for
our members to meet and learn from each other.
About our office
Employees in our office speak English, Spanish, Polish, Russian and
French. Want to talk to us and don't see your language on our list? We
may be able to arrange a meeting with a translator.
